      HI Iamme,
I would like to stay a scientist. I love my job and can’t really imagine doing anything else, I hope to moveon to be able to lecture university students in biology while still doing lab work!
What do you want to do after school?

Hi Jamme — Good question. I’ve just made the transition from bench science to being a science writer/editor. I miss some aspects of being a lab scientist, such as looking through a microscope at my experiments and the thrill of learning something new from an experiment. I enjoy some of the aspects of being a science writer/editor, including getting to learn about lots of different fields of biology and help scientists communicate with each other and the public about their research. I’m not sure what the future holds, maybe I’ll return to resarch or maybe I’ll continue to write, edit, and communicate science. Either way, my scientific training and view of the world makes me appreciate the beauty of biology every day.

      Hi Iamme,
In a couple of years time, I’ll be back working as a surgeon in a hospital somewhere, but my aim is to continue to be involved in scientific research because I really hope that I can help apply the stem cell technology that is being developed in the clinical situation and help patients. This will be really exciting and rewarding and I wouldn’t trade this for anything!

Id like to stay a scientist, but the thing I enjoy most is spending time doing experiements, and the further up the career ladder you climb, the less time you spend in the lab! Ideally I would love to balance research with public engagement full-time, I just havent quite worked out how as yet. But I always said Id stay in science as long as I still enjoyed it, and I still do!
