      Hi Katie,
      Thanks for your question!
I would like to become a lecturer in a college or university so I can teach students about science, and stem cells. I’d combine this with continuing my research as I love finding out new things and hope that someday the research I do will help people.

This is another great question, and it is a difficult one. I guess the simplest answer is that I hope to really make a difference no matter what I do, I hope to be able to communicate science and the importance of science to the best of my ability. I hope that I can always do something where I’m continuously learning. I’m honestly not sure if I’ll continue to be a scientific editor or if I will return to basic biological research in the future, in the back of mind, I’ve always thought that I would be a professor, and so many in a few more years, I’ll have my own lab and be teaching students how to think and make discoveries of their own.
Have you given any thought to the type of career that you want?

Good question katie14. The honest answer is I’m not sure. Academic jobs often have fixed term contracts so it’s easy to find yourself doing something slightly different each time. I think ideally I would like to have a univeristy based job for about three days a week and then maybe doing public engagement stuff or consultancy work for the rest of the time. I also have a dream of doing something more creative and hands on – like actually making my knitting and crocheting earn money or do cake decorating – so maybe I could be a part time baker and part time academic.

Hi Katie, in the future, I’d want to be a surgeon who also does scientific research and be able to apply our discoveries on our patients to help them heal better. I also want to continue to get involved in teaching. I do quite a lot of teaching for medical students and junior doctors, and I want to get involved with teaching students at schools as well because I think there’s loads of potential in you guys!
