      Hey,
      Thanks for your question.
I think the best thing about my job is the excitement of getting an experiment to work! It makes me want to do more and more. That and the thought that what I do may be able to help someone with a disease in the future is also really great.

I am also really lucky to work in a great lab with lots of fabulous people.

      Hi Yhashamy

Good question!! I’ve had to think hard about this one because there are lots of things I enjoy about the work and as with most jobs there’s bits I really don’t!!

I’d say the best thing is having the freedom to think of my own ideas and questions and work out how I can answer them in the lab. Coming up with an original idea that can change the direction of your work is a great feeling and almost as good as finding out the answer to the problem!

The other best bit is teaching students who come to experience life in the lab, I love explaining new techniques and how they work, it’s a very satisfying part of the job
What do you think would be your favourite thing about being a scientist?

hmmm, great question an quite a tricky one to answer. I guess why I really like my PhD is that no two days are ever the same. Because I’m not tied down to being in the lab it means that I can be flexible to do a lot of other things, I’ve just got back from helping at the Big Bang science fair in London, today I’m going to help unpack the van from that, sort out all the photos and feedback forms, then I have to rush off to listen to a seminar. No two days are ever the same and I really like that.

The best thing about being a scientist is discovering something new, no matter how small, that no one else knows. The thrill of discovery is only fully realized, however, when you can share it with someone else — a friend, a colleague, or the rest of the world. Communicating scientific discoveries is what I like most about my current job.

hi there, the best thing is when you actually see that what you do makes a big difference to people – I am very privileged to be able to combine surgery and scientific research. You can really help make people’s lives better, and that is really inspiring. Nothing else in the world beats that.
