• Question: Is it true that some people believe that instracting the Embryanic stem cell is killing the unborn child?

      Hi katherine,

      Yes, it’s true that some people think that. However, I think that a lot of people are confused and think that we take them from aborted foetus’ or from fully formed babies. This is not true, and in my case, I don’t even use embryos. I take eggs from the mother.
      When patients come in for IVF treatment, sometimes there are eggs and embryos that can’t be used for their treatment and would be thrown away. If this happens, the patients are asked if they would consent to the eggs and embryos to be used for research.

      I think that there will always be people who disagree with stem cell research and that is fine, everyone has different beliefs and we need to respect them, but hopefully with a greater understanding of stem cells, more people will agree with the research.
