      Hi Bishbashbosh,
I’ve been in the scince business since I finished my degree and got my first job aged 21 so about 13 years. That makes me feel really old!!!]
I like to think I’ve been a scientist since I was very young tho!!

I don’t really think of science as a business — it’s more of an intellectual exercise and a discovery process. That said, I’ve officially been making money as a scientist since I started grad school in 1998.

bishbashbosh! Hello there. I’ve been doing full time research for over a year. Before this, I was working as a doctor and did some part time research. It’s a complete change!! When you are a doctor, you are really busy, running around, trying to sort sick patients out, operate on them and make sure they are ok when they wake up. You also deal with a lot of emergencies and your bleep goes off all the time!! So it’s really hectic. Being a full time scientist now, it’s like a different world! you have a much more relaxed time, in that you don’t feel like you have to be in 10 different places at the same time, but you end up thinking about our project, how to solve that puzzle, all the time – like when you’re on the bus or something. It’s hard to let go cos you really want to solve the problem.

Hi, I went to university in 2003 and am still there – so that’s 9 years of study!

oooh about 8 years really- but ive only been officially employed for 1 and a half! My biology degree took 4 years, my PhD took 3 and I’ve been in my current job for just over 1. So im pretty much a baby in the science world! I have colleagues who have work at the University for 40+!
