      Hi Grace

Hope you enjoyed the chat this morning, i certainly did!

Im afraid im not a psychologist or neurologist so im probably not the best person to answer this question! But here goes!

Im not sure that the brain creates our personality as such, but it CAN determine our behaviour. Various studies have been done and have shown that the expression of specific genes cause certain behaviours- for example in certain species it determines whether they have just 1 partner for life or mate with lots of different partners. The interesting thing is though, scientists have found that the environment and experiences of animals can actually change the expression of certain genes, and therefore their behaviour. Care and attention by female rats to their pubs actually changes the expression of a receptor in their brain that is involved in their response to stress- the more affection they get- the greater the difference in receptor expression and the lower the pubs response to stress!
